Talk to the Trees forest school and speech and language therapy empowers people with speech, language and communication differences/difficulties and the important people around them to interact, develop skills and meet their goals through engagement with nature and the outdoors.
We also offer Forest School sessions which encourage wholistic development, fun and wellbeing for everyone!
We are neurodiversity affirming
In our speech therapy and forest school sessions we accept that all brains and ways of developing, processing and engaging with the world are different and ok. We know that it is not possible to cure or fix brain differences and why would we want to? Diversity brings joy and new ways of thinking about things.
Why speech and language therapy outdoors?
We all do our best when we are relaxed, regulated, interested and motivated. Speech and language development happens when we are engaged in doing other things! So many people (including those with communication differences/difficulties!) feel happier, calmer and ready to engage when they are outside and have the space and time to come to any learning on their own terms. Forest school and the outdoors provides endless opportunities for this. We can also use forest school and child led speech and language therapy ideas in other ways and even bring them indoors with us!
What does it look like?
Sessions are client led. They follow the clients interests, sensory needs and preferences and build and speech and language therapy goals into these. The goal is always to empower the client and those around them to use any strategies in real life. We can take sessions anywhere…even indoors.
